Stove repair at Lacor Hospital

fitting in stove wp

Our last post illustrated a situation where LOTS of rocket stoves were built into a cooking pavilion. We look for about a 5-6 year lifespan of a rocket stove in a hut used by one family. The stoves at Lacor get massive usage by folks that may not be accustomed to them and don’t feel that pride of ownership. So after two years, Aid Africa returned and dug out any damaged stoves and built-in new ones. We arrived with a bunch of bricks and plenty of staff to put them together and install them (in a village stove distribution the recipients are taught to assemble their own stoves). Its dirty work in the old ashes and new mud but, when we left, our cook stations were good as new!

In the photo below: on left is Monica who is a vendor at Lacor and our representative there who encourages good use of the rocket stove. To her left are Gulu staff members Isaac and Frieda and two gentlemen from our brick site.
